Clearly not soon enough for your liking.

That APU is in the top 10 by playing a DIII schedule and without playing an NAIA team with more than 3 wins (except Menlo who has 6 wins with an entire DIII schedule). And they are the highest rated 2 loss team.

Why does APU get a pass for playing cupcakes?

Could this be what is hurting NAIA football, and the NAIA in general, the fact that there are "favorite" members like this?

 :thumbsdown

Did you watch them play this season? If you did, you would see why they may be rated too low.

The APU bashers like to beat on the same 2 drums: 1) Denigrate APU's record and rankings by citing a weak schedule, as if APU were deliberately scheduling weak teams in order to sandbag. 2) Portray APU as some type of backstabbers or traitors because they are moving to D II. If you look at these 2 things together, it comes into focus. Nobody wants APU to play a tough schedule more than APU itself. They are trying to improve and build their program; they WANT the competition. It has been very frustrating for them to cobble together a schedule each year. They play the toughest schedule they can put together. Opponents at a competitive level are hard to find close by, so APU has to travel a lot. Then, nobody wants to play them "home and home" because the reciprocal travel is too expensive. Weak local teams don't want to get their butts kicked. Better teams don't want to take a chance at getting upset and embarrassed. This is the life of an Independent, understood. (Look at Webber's plea for games on this board... unanswered last time I looked.) This is why the decision for APU to move to D II is an intelligent one. APU has had a great run in the NAIA and leaves with a lot of good memories, as well as admiration and respect for their NAIA comrades. If there has been whining and complaining done on this board by APU fans... well, I guess that's one of the functions of a message board, but don't hold that against the APU players or coaches. As far as APU getting a free pass or being over rated or unworthy of the playoffs or whatever, I guess we'll know for sure in the next several weeks.

I think most people used to think of APU as a classy type of institution, but all the whining and accusing and complaining on here has changed that for a lot of people.

They use an accusatory tone about people not understanding them, blah, blah, blah. Well, it may not be your fault that you aren't close to any NAIA football teams. But it's not our fault either. If you want to be seen, try playing some NAIA teams we have seen once in a while. You can travel anywhere you want to play anybody you want, but you can't be bothered to play an NAIA in the Midwest. The onus is on you, not us. So quit b***hing. It's pathetic.

I don't understand that K9... You should know that educational institutions have had funding cut, and then cut again, and once that was done, it was cut again. APU cannot use all of their resources into flying to the Midwest for 5 games every season. It is less to host a first round playoff game than go on the road for them for a game against a team from out here. I think APU applying for D2 has more to do with location and proximity to others than anything.

That said, let's fill a ten game schedule with the last 10 current NAIA teams APU has played:

Menlo
Southern Oregon
McPherson
Webber Intl
Carroll
Langston
MidAmerica Nazarene
Southern Nazarene
Eastern Oregon
Valley City

---------
Of those teams, all were/are ranked or receiving votes this season.

LOL Kaloyan, Nice try on the moral indignation, but it doesn't wash.

So the comments of a few fans can really change your view on an entire institution? You are a paragon of virtue. Do you really expect anyone to believe that you discussed this with "a lot of people"?

I'm sorry your delicate sensibilities were offended. Anyone reading your posts would know that K9 never uses an accusatory tone.

Oh, I didn't realize that was the standard for legitimacy. So Webber, Southern Oregon, Carroll, and Menlo don't count for anything? And Langston and McPherson are not in the Midwest? Try slamming some Midwest teams for declining to schedule APU.

No one is bitching. Sorry you confuse that with actual dialogue or explaining. The concept is that APU had scheduling difficulties and solved them by moving to D II.

No, your inner anger and inability to have a mature discussion is really what is pathetic.

So APU has cut their funding is what you are saying? How do you know this? And if this is true, then whey are they spending the money to become d2 if they can't fund what they have as you say?

They flew to Missouri to play Lincoln, one of the worst programs at any level. They flew to Missouri to play Lindenwood, the year after Lindenwood leaves NAIA. They fly to Louisiana, Wisconsin, wherever they want, but almost never to an NAIA team. They fly to East Texas Baptist, to West Texas AM (neither of which returned the favor, as Lincoln did not) and they are joining a conference where roughly half the schools are in Hawaii. So I don't think money is the problem. And as far as people being "scared" to play them. Doubt that is very true, since they have had plenty of seasons below .500 lately.

They say that people don't see them play, so they don't realize what a quality team they are. Fair enough. But teams can't go scout you, just to make sure you get your fair shake. If you want to play teams to be seen more, you had that option. Go SOMEWHERE where people can see you if feel like people having a sense of your level would benefit you. But instead, the fans just sit on here and complain about the rest of the NAIA.

So to remedy the situation, they join a conference where only 1 team has football, who they been playing anyway. I hope you've got your copy and paste buttons handy, because I suspect you will have all the same complaints in d2 football that you have on here. No body knows us, whaaaa. We can't get votes, or respect, or this or that... Let those crocodile tears flow boys, cuz nobody will care at the next level either.

Hey, you got to 10 posts before apu leaves the naia. Pat on the back for you. You're an oldtimer who'll be missed. Did you go to an naia school, or just a constipated parent with a chip on his shoulder?

You have proven there is plenty you don't know. I think this thread has gone long enough and may head the wrong direction.
