it might be that. Also factor in this is the first year that Parisi isn't the head coach and there is no doubt that change has hurt them a bit.
Ture. As much as I didn't get along, or agree with how Parisi did things, he was a hell of a coach and produced winners.
Chad Smith was a hell of a wrestler, but he's pretty young/new to coaching. Taking over a powerhouse program like this can be a bit of a bear. I think he'll be fine, I'm just surprised it's fallen as far as it has.

Nice finish for the Lions. Good to see Chad Smith get the Lions back into the mix among the elite! Hopefully we they can take another step next year as we move to the MIAA!

What happened with Parisi? This may be an older thread, but why did he leave his powerhouse program?
LU has about as much pride in their wrestling as they now do in their football program. Wrestling at that school has been so good for a long time, even when most of the others were not as good.
Don't take this to the bank, but I think that per NCAA rules, a coach cannot also have duties within the Academics department. I can't remember exactly what Parisi's job title was but in short, he wasn't allowed to do both according to the NCAA.
Chad Smith was a NC wrestler for Parisi, and was groomed as an assistant Coach under him for a few years.
Wresting is a sport in which good competitors often DO make good coaches, unlike basketball and sometimes football. Reason being that elite wrestlers do not rely on God given talent and athletic ability to be successful. If one tries to go that route, they end up counting gym lights. Top level wrestlers are usually the ones that out work, out smart, and out technique their opponent.
Ironically, it's another Parisi disciple that is likely going to be giving Smith fits for several years to come in the D2 ranks. James Kisgen at McKendree University has quickly built his young program into a national force.
