http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/7581632/miami-dolphins-sign-cfl-rushing-star-jerome-messam-contract

Quote:
MIAMI -- Running back Jerome Messam, a 1,000-yard rusher in the Canadian Football League last year, has signed with the Miami Dolphins.

The Canadian Press reported that the 6-foot-3, 245-pound Messam signed a three-year deal.

Messam played the past two seasons in the CFL. With Edmonton last year, he had 195 carries for 1,057 yards, and 27 receptions for 248 yards. He was the league's first running back since 2000 to rush for more than 1,000 yards, and he won the Most Outstanding Canadian Award.

A native Canadian, Messam played at Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.

Messam becomes the fourth running back under contract with the Dolphins, joining Reggie Bush, who posted his first 1,000-yard season in 2011, second-round pick Daniel Thomas and Richard Medlin.

The Dolphins have found talent in the CFL before, signing linebacker Cameron Wake in 2009. Wake has 28 sacks since signing with Miami.

I remember playing against this guy. He was one big looking running back, but he wasn't really a power back or a great blocker, but when he got to the open field, it was off to the races. I never thought he would be much of a pro athlete compared to watching Ealy and Addison run up and down the field during the matchups.

Graceland is a pipeline to the NFL.

The guy kept Graceland relevant for a couple years. He's the real deal. He probably would've been starting for any other HAAC team over the past 10 years including over Dorsey, Obryant, Volcin, Ealey, or Addison.

As long as his heads on straight, he'll be a serviceable NFL RB, which is nothing to scoff at.

I thought he even played in '09. Maybe I'm wrong, but yeah, the guy was a stud. Where did he play before he transferred into Graceland?

Yeah I do think there was some controversy around him going to the combine and then competing another year at Graceland, or something like that. It was shady nonetheless.

I watched him play in '09 in Lamoni.
Animal straight ahead, around the corner not so much.
BigJim talked a lot about him being in the combine for the Giants that summer as I remember.

Really? That's where the voice and pride of MNU, the HAAC, VSN, and the NAIA wants to take this?

According to the stats, he played at Graceland in 07 and 09.

I remember the controversy was the fact that he went to the Giants mini-camp and got hurt. Sat out in 08. Then he came back in 09 for his senior year.

Sodak,

He may have been plowing through the william jewel pee wee team, but I never saw a power back out of Messam against MNU. He was big and was intimidating, but never really showed it. If you want a real power back, go look at David Allen that played at Valley those years. Too many times i watched very unlucky defenders try and stop him at full stop and it never turned out good.

In 07, I had the unfortunate opportunity to watch him break through the line and score on a long run, so I know he has the wheels to get up and go. When he hits the sideline, he hit his stride and pulled away from every one. It was nice to return the kindness in 09 by beating them 66-7 and holding him to 38 yards rushing.

But back to the story, its great to see a guy go from the HAAC, kill it in the CFL and have a chance to go pro. Since he had all the size, becoming a power back was only a change in his mindset of running. I wish the guy the best of luck and I hope he gets a shot to play, even with a few high caliber guys in front of him.

The voice of MNU, wants to call him "shady" 'Nuff said about that.

Back to the story, The dude was and is a stud, get over yourself, he is in the NFL now, not the pee wee leagues.... I believe it is Graceland 1, the HAAC (and that includes the almighty MNU) 0.
Correct me where I'm wrong on this.

So he kicked your a** in '07, your felons held him in check in '09, good for you, hang on to that, he signed a 6 figure contract, how are you and your studs doing in the NFL?

Long live the dream.

I useded to love watchin Jerome run right over MNu defense guys like they was not there. How long did Allen play inna NFL? How long did Duren play inna NFL, how long did that big slow quarterback Schneider play inna NFL? Jerome gotta 3 year contract signed with the Fish an he gonna bee makin some big jack!!!

SOB was scary..

I remember the Valley loss to Messam early in the 2007 season..defenders bouncing off him like pingpong balls and hanging on for dear life at other times..

When the other teams RB is bigger than anyone on the defense except for the noseguard you can't tell me that isn't intimidating.

He was much more gifted in my estimation than another NFL player that played at GU in Goodman who played for awhile at Green Bay.

Good luck to Messam .... hopefully he has the moxie to stick around in the NFL after a couple of years north of the border. He always looked the part, but was not consistent week to week in the HAAC. Sometimes he would dominate and other times he would look timid in relation to his physical skills that were superior. He was an upright runner as well and will take some hits now that he may have been able to avoid on that bigger field the canucks use. Either way, a HAACster is getting a shot!

Mr. Predictionking,

Graceland is now the best pipeline to the NFL in the HAAC. Understand?

Sorry to disappoint Mr Sodak, but I never lost to Graceland while I was at MNU.

He was a good running back at Graceland but not the best at his position during his college years, and it is great to see him succeed at the pro level. He must have changed him game between Graceland and now. I'm glad he found out how to be a great back, I want him to succeed. I don't care if he is from MNU or Graceland.

Thanks for the sentiment, but you don't have to be sorry that you disappointed me.
Good thing he changed his game according to you, I mean getting an invite to try out for the NFL after his junior year and missing his chance to play then because of injury, poor guy must have had no game at all in '07. '09 didn't do him any good either, took him 2 years of breaking records in the CFL to make it back to the NFL...
