Hmmm, Seriously?

Golden State Athletic Conference
1. Vanguard (Calif.) (5-1 / 14-1)
2. Westmont (Calif.) (6-0 / 15-3)
3. The Master's (Calif.) (5-1 / 19-1)

After Westmont has beaten both those teams on their own floors in the last 2 weeks?

He was last year, I don't think it's changed.

Vanguard has been rating for a while. Love the system still?

RRAC is
1. Wiley
2. OLLU
3. LSUS

Ronnie Howell is a big dude but have to wonder again on his rating. He put Wiley at 1 and OLLU 2 and they are tied for first. Wiley loss bad this last week to Langston and OLLU and LSUS had big wins. I don't know if he understands how the rankings work because he may have just kept all the RRAC teams out of the rankings today.

Who dat you keep saying he's got three teams in the top 26, but their is a good chance that a their will be no RRAC teams in the top 25 this week.

The system is crap because some coaches don't understand it and other take advantage of it. Look at Vanguard. He's a crook and doesn't care who knows it.

The NAIA needs a new system.

Wiley beat OLLU and LSUS. Why shouldn't they be number 1??? They've earned it at this point. I think he has it right, for now. Don't get your panties in a bunch.

Maybe you should start bagging on the folks that are screwing with the system more. You keep hammering away on coach Ronnie (not wise, he's HUGE) but were pretty quiet when the RRAC men's rater was putting the 6th place team at 2 and the 2nd place team at 5. You should spend more time and energy criticizing those that aren't doing the right thing, like Vanguard's coach.

My question would be....How does he get away with that? Who is policing the raters? To me, if the Vanguard coach is still the rater, he is cheating the system for personal gain.

There are oversight committees for both the men and women's ratters and so if it gets through them, then we can trust that questions are being asked. Have you guys watched GSAC games this year? (I know Bronto does) I haven't, but feel like a GSAC coach would be better evaluating than merely going by the record. If the teams are close in record then there has to be some other criteria. It usually works itself out when the home and homes in conference are played out.

Also some conferences do have a vote among the coaches and conference oversight on ratings. I seriously doubt that vanguard is trying to game the system but is voting how he feels at this point the ratings should go. The women's raters usually get it right.

The scuttlebutt at the game last night was that it was an acceptable conference rating mostly from the broader perspective of non-conference play, particularly common opponents, and that everyone hadn't played everyone already. Westminster was a common opponent to all three teams; Masters beat them, Vanguard beat them, and Westminster killed Westmont. And Westmont didn't show up against OK City either.

But now, everybody has played everybody (including Vanguard beating Masters last night) and there's enough conflicting information that the rater is going to have to decide what's relevant and what's not. Masters' victory over Westminster was 2.5 months ago and was their first game of the season. Vanguard's victory over Westminster was 1.5 months ago. Westmont's 1-3 series in which we didn't play well was a month ago, and exposed how vulnerable our "Tooch centric" offense was, and it's been revamped. For whatever reason, neither Vanguard nor Masters were able to exploit our offense... probably because it's been fixed.

So now you have the following conference standings, at the end of the first round:

Westmont 7-0
Vanguard 6-1
Masters 5-2

To me, that's a clear pecking order. Especially considering that Westmont beat Vanguard and Masters on their own courts. Masters clearly has no claim to a ranking higher than 3 at this point. The rater would have to have some objective reason to believe that Westmont will lose more games in the 2nd round than Vanguard, and in particular some objective reason to believe that Vanguard will beat Westmont in Montecito.

SSAC guy, I get what you're saying. To me, when it's December or early January and everyone hasn't played everyone in conference yet and the sample size of conference games isn't very big, then go ahead and rank how you feel. But once you get at least 6, 7, 8 games in and it's late January and into February, I think the raters have to start rating what is and not what they feel it is.

I haven't seen a GSAC game, but I can look at the schedule and see that Westmont is undefeated in their conference and went on the road to Vanguard and Master's and won both. They have earned the right on the floor to be rated first in their conference. Not the team that lost to them at home whose coach just happens to be the rater. It's fishy.

No change in the standings:

Golden State Athletic Conference
1. Vanguard (Calif.) (7-1 / 16-1)
2. Westmont (Calif.) (8-0 / 17-3)
3. The Master's (Calif.) (6-2 / 20-2)

Vanguard at Westmont tomorrow night (Tuesday).

You do know that you must beat the all powerful Vanguard by 50 for it to count as a win. That's just the rules laid down by the all wise Russ Davis, who by the way looks a little like Chris Farley. All he needs is a van down by the river

So winning both games against Vanguard means you will be tied for first next week with Vanguard as they move up to #1 in the universe

Never seen a Vanguard game, but because of their coach I dislike them on the level of LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, OU, and Texas

Not true...both OCU and Freed Hardemon are ranked #1...I think the coaches know better because Vanguard didn't get a single 1st place vote

I hope you weren't taking me seriously, I was trying to being facetious about Russ Davis as a rater
